Here we have the first of some exciting new developments at Higher Penmayne, Rock. This is the show house and is the first of 10 eco houses built with a fresh, stylish villa design. The outside has incorporated cedar and stone cladding, mixed with a standing seam zinc metal roof.
Inside, the internal lay-out is well thought out with an open plan kitchen, dining and living area and three good sized bedrooms.
All of these are holiday developments and therefore with our kitchen design, we had this in mind. We went for a sleek handle-less door in matt light grey. This colour is one of the most popular colours in 2019 and complements the engineered oak flooring and white walls. The doors come in either a gloss or matt finish; we decided to put matt into this kitchen as they are holiday homes and therefore matt doors show finger prints less, making them easier to maintain!
It is so important, when buying a kitchen, to not only look at the style and colours of kitchen doors (and all the furniture along with it; plinth, cornice, pelmet, panels and posts) but to also look at the quality of the door. What it is made of? What wrapping does it have on? Is it lacquered? – All of this will determine the durability of your kitchen. These doors have a foil wrapping on them, which means the layering goes all the way around the door, so there are no seams for it to eventually peel off, like a vinyl wrap can sometimes do. These doors are then lacquered on top, to give them extra protection.
Likewise, the carcases used also play a key part of how durable your kitchen will be and how it will withstand the length of time. All of our carcases have 18mm solid backs on all base, wall and larder cupboards. This is because the strength of the carcase is in the backs and by having thicker backs it will stop them bowing/moving over time. You will find many suppliers will now have 18mm backs on base units but not on wall or larder cupboards.
This kitchen has been designed with a mid-range appliance, CDA. This kitchen includes in integrated dishwasher, integrated washer/dryer, a single pyrolytic oven, microwave combination oven, induction hob, curved glass hood and a black glass splashback to match the hood.
Finally, we have a Corian© worktop in Designer White with a matching 1 1/2 bowl Corian© sink. We have included a 300mm overhang on the breakfast bar to create additional seating for 3-4 people. We also added matching Corian© upstands and a window sill to match the worktops.
Corian© is one of the most popular solid surfaces, along with Quartz and Granite. It has it’s pros and cons like all work surfaces. Although it can scratch and mark more than Quartz or Granite, it is a much more forgivable surface. It can be polished back up to look brand new and if you dent it or take a chip out of it, it can be repaired, normally without a trace!
